The Tsala lies halfway between Cape Town and Port Elizabeth in the Tsitsikamma Forest National Park along the famous Garden Route. Amidst gigantic evergreen trees, guests can observe splendid flora and fauna, a fascinating contrast to the ecological system of the semi-desert area of Karoo only a few hours’ drive inland.

The Tsala itself is as spectacular as the country. The exclusive complex is completely embedded six metres high up in the canopy of leaves of mighty yellowwood trees.
Intimacy and spaciousness are essential features of the Tsala. Here, you can enjoy the best of European, South African and Asian cuisine in an exclusive atmosphere. Seafood and Indian curries, spices from Malaysia and local game. The famous crayfish from this region, a special kind of lobster with only one large pair of pincers, is a really first-rate speciality.

Lots of lightness, brightness and breeziness await the guests. Designed by renowned architects, Tsala’s open plan again and again produces new and surprising lines of sight, views and insights. This, together with the use of natural materials such as wood and stone, helped to create one of the world’s most beautiful lodges.

The Tsala offers its guests a choice of ten suites, all of them very intimate and set apart from each other and linked by long walkways made from rare woods. Each suite consists of a living room and bedroom, a bathroom, outside terrace and pool. Each has its own fireplace to keep you warm and cosy on chilly evenings. And after a relaxing massage, there’s nothing to stop you enjoying the following day’s adventures: deep-sea fishing and diving, sailing, canoeing, dolphin and whale watching, excursions on horseback, mountain-biking, paragliding and sightseeing flights…

A suite in the Tsala is the finest combination of European romance and African magic, a harmonious blend of warm, earthy tones and the proverbial light of the African sun under an evergreen canopy of leaves. Many different cultural influences from Europe, Africa and Asia unite here to form a unique experience.
Many hundreds of types of birds join in with their song, for 22 of the world’s 27 main species of birds are at home in South Africa, more than 900 different kinds. Splendid butterflies glide through the trees, and never before in your life have you heard most of the animals’ calls.

On mild evenings, you can take a seat on your own observation platform and listen to the concert of the wilderness.

All ten suites are cosy and comfortable of course. All rooms in the Tsala – even the bathrooms – offer an incomparable symphony of form and colour, of earthy tones and the sounds of nature.
